YO WHATS UP!
Finally, I have made my first DIY suit using Burda Pattern 7046 with an added classic dress shirt using my Simplicity Pattern 8427. I have always tried to challenge myself since I started sewing close to 2 years now. After I made my first couple t-shirts I wanted to immediately make a suit right after. My lady, Mimi G. Style, was teaching me and she looked at me like I was crazy…LOL! I took the hint to take my time and I focused in on projects I could learn techniques and build my skill level.
I have made everything from overalls, trench coats, slacks, cargo pants, parka jackets, jumpsuits, etc. Whenever I wanted to start my first full suit, I kept putting it off thinking I wasn’t ready. So, this Easter I told myself I was going to make an Easter Suit and I didn’t turn back or try to talk myself out of it.
PATTERN REVIEW
Pattern Description: Suit (jacket/pants) & Classic button up shirt
Pattern Sizing: Suit 34 – 44 ( I cut a size 36) & Shirt 34 – 42 (I used a size 38)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Suit – No. Shirt – Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes for both.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the fit of the suit pants, but I didn’t like the design details of the suit jacket. I really like the widespread collar of the shirt.
Fabric Used: Suit – Lining blend. Shirt – Cotton.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: (1) I didn’t add the third button on the jacket. (2) I added a breast pocket on the left front of the jacket. (3) I added a back center vent. (4) I added a second back welt pocket on my pants.
Would you sew it again? Yes for both.
Would you recommend it to others? Yes for both.
