Throw away those clip-ons & learn how to use button down suspenders…
It takes a certain type of man to really invest proper time into his image and the more time you put towards yourself, you’ll slowly begin to learn. Years ago before men started to wear belts, button down suspenders were used to hold up their pants. Almost all pants were made with buttons located on the inside of the waistband, one set in the center back and two sets in the front located right at the front hip bones.
I’m guilty of wearing the clip-on suspenders for many years because thats what they sold & still sell in stores and non of my pants are made with the buttons on the inside of the waistband. Learning more about menswear and how to get my hands on such a classic piece, I’ve been able to put more time into my appearance the RIGHT WAY!
The best way to find these type of suspenders is to go into really nice vintage shops and find a good pair that don’t look too out dated. Then once you find something that you like you have to have pants to put them on… so now what do you do? Most men think its hard to have alterations done so they never get around into doing them, but almost any tailor can handle a simple job as adding buttons to the waistband.
I kept my look pretty simple today with a white fitted dress shirt paired with a plaid necktie. The velvet vintage dress pants matches the suspenders almost prefect and the gold claps on the suspenders match my accessories. My favorite part about this outfit is the coordinating colors of my polka dot socks and plaid necktie that brings the personality to the dapper look.
