OOTD + DIY: HOW I TAILORED MY PANTS

Inside look on how I tailored my khaki chino pants MYSELF for my OOTD…

Over the past couple years I have been working mostly as a wardrobe stylist, which I enjoy because it allows me to use my creativity professionally and there are always exciting project that come up to work on. But lately the styling aspect of the industry has only inspired me to learn more about the construction of clothing. So I teamed up with the amazing designer and DIY expert of the sewing world, MIMI G. STYLE.
sweater – thrifted; pants- TopMan; socks – Gallant & Beau; shoes – Gordon Rush; watch – Micael Kors
I was able to have a one-on-one DIY sewing session on how to make my very own alterations under the sewing machine. This is definitely a highlight for my career as a new designer. I am constantly in and out the tailor shop making alterations to my clothes and about 90% of everything I wear is altered in some way. So being able to do most my alterations myself helps with getting me comfortable   with the sewing machine and saving money altogether.
At first I was super nervous, but once I got started it felt like I had been doing it for years. Mimi G. was patient and did a really great job with explaining every detail for the project. After watching me sew a straight line on the first pant leg she told me that I was a natural.
If you look at the next picture below, I have a before and after demonstration. The left pant leg is before alterations and on the right is after tailoring. See the difference?  I had to taper the pant leg from the lower calf down and I had to hem them up to my upper ankle.
The sweater is from a thrift store I found about 10 months ago and it came with 3 generic buttons on the shoulder (same color of the collar). I had them replaced with wooden brown buttons and I added in a gold stitching.
This is a casual look I wear for comfort thats still stylish and perfect going into the fall.
